Are you looking to add air conditioning to your home, and you're unsure of the best way to do it? You'll definitely want to know the following ways that you can make your home feel more comfortable in the summer.

Central Air Conditioning

A central air conditioning system works by using an indoor and outdoor unit to provide cold air to your home. An indoor air handler and outdoor compressor work together to move refrigerant in and out of your home. The indoor air conditioner absorbs the heat into the refrigerant and moves it out of the home, where the compressor gets rid of the heat. The air handler then blows the cool air that's created into your home through ductwork.

The benefit of central air conditioning is that it can be an efficient way to cool down an entire home. However, it does require existing ductwork from a heating system, and it is difficult to save energy when you do not want to cool down certain rooms that are not in use.

Mini-Split Air Conditioning

A mini-split system works much like central air conditioning, but the unit is designed for a single room in the home. It works by having a ductless unit installed in the wall that acts as the air handler, and an outdoor compressor that is located on the outside of the home.

It's a great option for adding cool air to a room that is feeling particularly hot, such as an addition or bedroom on the second floor of your home. It will also only cool one room at a time, so you can have individual climate controls to improve your comfort. You can even connect multiple wall units in your home to cool multiple rooms at once. The downsides of a mini-split air conditioner are that many people do not like the look of having a wall unit in each room, and it may not be best for a whole home cooling solution.

Window Unit Air Conditioning

One option that can work in a pinch is a window air conditioning unit, but it is not ideal for multiple reasons. These units not only take up the space of a window and look ugly, but they are incredibly noisy. The compressor sits practically in your home, which means that you will always hear the noise that it generates when the air conditioning is running. However, it's a cheap and quick option to add air conditioning if you need it.
