If you own a business with a bathroom, then you know how messy people can be. Not only can they be messy, but they can also be destructive. As the business owner, it's your job to keep them from wreaking havoc on your bathroom. That includes making sure they don't throw any of the most damaging items possible down your toilets.

Feminine Hygiene Products

One major culprit of overflowing toilets, clogs, and various other plumbing problems is feminine hygiene products. These can destroy a toilet, especially if they are flushed regularly and in large amounts.

While you can't physically prevent customers from flushing these items, you can put up signs advising them not to flush these products down the toilet. You can also provide a receptacle specifically for the disposal of these products to further circumvent the problem.

Additionally, make sure that you do not provide any feminine hygiene products directly in your restroom. Many businesses offer these as a courtesy, but their kindness is often repaid with clogged toilets.

Baby Wipes

Feminine hygiene products aren't the only thing that can clog up your public toilet. Baby wipes are another common culprit of clogs, and this includes those that claim to be flushable.

If you need to provide a changing station in your restrooms, also provide a sign that advises people not to flush wipes or diapers down your toilets. Include a small pail near the changing table for these items to be disposed of. People may still go against your wishes, but providing these options can greatly reduce the number of people who do so, as well as the damage to your toilet.

Food

You might not think you have to worry about people throwing food down your toilets. Believe it or not, however, it happens more often than you might think.

If you don't own a restaurant or other place that serves food, don't allow food inside your store or venue. If food must be present, have a strict policy against taking it into restrooms.

Having to do things like this may seem a bit ridiculous, but people just love to throw things down toilets when they shouldn't. Despite your best efforts, there's still a chance that you will encounter problems from time to time. For that reason, make sure you have a good commercial plumber you can call on for help when you need it, as well as for regular care and maintenance to keep your toilets in the best condition possible. Contact a company like ACE Home Services in order to learn more about what a commercial plumber might be able to do for you.
